Iron Man 3: Movie Review

"Iron Man 3" is astoundingly beautiful in so many ways it is almost, if not, perfect. A tour-de-force of a superhero film that we could say it is the best one to come out yet par none. "Iron Man 3" is darker, grittier than its predecessors but it is also able to mix-in the humorish vibe that we all so love from the past few films. Put simply, "Iron Man 3" is a different beast and it has definitely set the bar for a superhero film. Should you watch "Iron Man 3"? Well, honestly, do you even need to ask.

Around 13 years ago, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is in Bern, Switzerland and is presented by one of his female colleagues to her scientific discovery - gene hacking. The discovery is astounding as it can help living things recover from devastating injuries. Unfortunately, the playboy in Tony Stark comes out and he abandons her after a night of abandon. He also meets Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce), founder of Advanced Idea Mechanics, who he ignores instantly. Tony doesn't know it yet but whatever decisions he made during that time will affect him significantly in the present. Now, after the events that happened in New York (from "The Avengers"), Tony is struggling with anxiety attacks and insomnia. To deal with it, he has obsessively been making countless suits as a relief from his fears. This causes a rift with his girlfriend, Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow). And yet, even with all his personal problems, Tony stark must face a new threat with a terrorist named Mandarin (Ben Kingsley).

"Iron Man 3" is here and it doesn't disappoint. In fact, it surprises. The biggest of which is the human factor injected into the plot. Without spoiling much, just don't expect that all, if not most, action sequences will feature suited-up men fighting each other. And this is a good thing. It adds to the tension and the factor that Tony Stark is human after all without his much vaunted suit of armor. This could also be a moving point to the end of the series. If ever this is the final film, Robert Downey Jr. made one heck of a performance. He is as big as any factor to the series' success. He has defined and perfectly represented who Tony Stark is and the third film hits the bullseye. The supporting crew also had notable performances especially Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce and Ty Simpkins (our favorite). Although the film runs a rather lengthy 129 minutes, you never feel that it bogs down. The film is extremely well-paced and one that will keep you up from start to finish. If we could choose the best scenes from the film, ours would be the final battle between Tony Stark and his nemesis. It is simply blissful action. A close second would be the Mandarin videos that crop up from time to time. Those do well to provide add tension and even some scare to the film. It is no exaggeration when we say "Iron Man 3" is the best out of the three (even the best superhero film we have seen yet). It is beautiful, it is astounding and it is simply marvelous.
