Careful What You Wish For: Movie Review

"Careful What You Wish For" severely starts off with the wrong foot. The first half is littered with filler material that never gets anywhere. While things do get interesting in the second half, the film's overall lackluster and non-cohesive plot points fail to make a compelling mark.

Doug (Nick Jonas) is a handsome self-conscious virgin student starts a very passionate affair with Lena (Isabel Lucas), the wife of his neighbor, Elliot Harper (Dermot Mulroney). But when Elliot Harper is accidentally murdered by Lena, Doug is caught up with much more than he wished for.

There was a slight stroke of brilliance somewhere inside "Careful What You Wish For". For a few minutes, midway through the film, things started to get into a groove. The story was unraveling, the tension was building up and you actually cared for what's going to happen next. But with a generally bad and generic plot, things revert back to the awkward state that the film has right from the beginning. Acting-wise, the film was okay. The leads were so-so but we couldn't say they didn't give it their best. It's most likely that acting is not their forte to begin with. Sadly, "Careful What You Wish For" feels too safe to be really anything but rehash material.
