The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor : Movie Review

We couldn’t believe how the third movie of the blockbuster movie series “The Mummy” could be such a disappointment. The producers took seven years to decide if they wanted to come up with another film and they we are not exaggerating when we say that they shouldn’t have even bothered making a third movie. What came to their minds? Just the greed; just the money to be made? They should have kept the mummy buried for good! The successes of some series like Indiana Jones, Spiderman or Lord of the Rings may have inspired them to go on with it but it just didn’t work this time around. The Mummy: the Tomb of the Dragon Emperor completely tainted our perception of the Mummy series before as one of the most enjoyable blockbusters of all time. Sometimes film companies should know when to just quit it and zip it. Who can remember the similarly and haphazardly made Jurassic Park 3? Rings a bell right?

The third adventure has a whole new mummy this time; an evil Chinese emperor discovered by Alex O’Connell, no other than the son of Rick and Evelyn O’Connell who are not at all strangers to mummies. Some Chinese officials wanted to wake this emperor so that they’ll be able to build an army invincible to the rest of the armies of the world. It is not a surprise that the O’Connells' are willing to go through another adventure involving mummies. They are aided by two immortals who have been making sure for two thousand years that the emperor remains dead.

The movie gave some scenes and lines that would give you a nostalgic feeling about the first two films. However, not even the two Asian superstars (Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh) can do much about the franchise. The effects were decent but then it lacked the wit of the previous films (like Jonathan or Rick’s funny lines and antics) and the exciting action scenes. And what about Rachel Weisz? Maria Bello, who replaced her as Evy was nothing compared to how brilliant Rachel Weisz was in the first two films. And was it just us but the actor who played Alex just looked too old to be Brendan Fraser’s son! Clearly, this is one of the biggest disappointments in years.

  3. Sounds like Tomb of the Dragon Emperor met everyone's expectations... generally Brendan Frasier tries too hard to act, so you can tell he's acting
