Paglaki Ko, Gusto Kong Maging Pornstar: Movie Review

Trying hard to be smart, "Paglaki Ko, Gusto Kong Maging Pornstar" in the process outsmarts itself instead. What we get is a film that is devoid of life, laughs, direction, or substance. It's a film that banks to lure you with its title but it is one that you should avoid at all costs.
Before the death of her Papang, Ara Mina is told about his last wish which is to reinvent the sex film industry into modern times. The task is not easy and Ara Mina gets the help of other legends in the sexy film industry with Alma Moreno, Rosanna Roces, and Maui Taylor as they try to find and mold the next Philippine Porn Star.
We really didn't expect too much from “Paglaki Ko, Gusto Kong Maging Pornstar”. If we're being honest, we expected a laugh out loud experience and not much else. But the film wanted to be more and in the process bit more than it could chew. The major problems in the film were mostly rooted in bad writing and uneven execution. There was this awkwardness throughout its runtime with the film on one hand trying too hard to be serious and deep while the other side was trying to be funny. Those funny bits were the highlights for the film as the lead actresses were given the chance to be themselves. The most affected actress was Ara Mina as she had to be serious the whole time which was simply out of character for her. Limited by the script, she had a cringe-inducing performance in most scenes. The other actresses were better with Rosanna Roces providing the best performance out of the bunch. Coming back to the serious portions, these were just boring, unnecessary, and had a lousy script. For some reason, the film had a tendency to do exposition upon exposition on the topic of sexy films - as if treating its audience as dumb or knowing nothing about the topic of sex. It was okay for the first few scenes but this was happening from start to finish which made the film come out as trying too hard to make its points known to the audience. And those points were simply pointless, shallow and hollow. Overall, "Paglaki Ko, Gusto Kong Maging Pornstar'' was forcing itself to conform into something it didn’t need to be. It couldn’t mix and jive its more serious points with its comedic twist.
