Inception: Movie Review

“Inception” has always bewildered and amused us. On one hand, there is something captivating about the film that has always grabbed our attention. On the other end though there is doubt that this will be what it promises to be. Is it the over-the-top fight scenes? Is it the mind-bending physics? We hate to judge a book by its cover but we have seen a lot of films go the similar path as “Inception” that has fallen flat on their faces. “Inception” promises to be a refresher for the action and thriller genre by mixing it up with inspirations from sci-fi and philosophical themes. Will “Inception” be a huge bust or will it be a must watch? Read on to find out our verdict.

Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is an extractor. An extractor is an individual who steals information by tapping into a person’s deep subconscious during a dream. This is the new way of doing corporate espionage and Cobb is the best of his kind. Unfortunately, Cobb has been accused of killing his wife Mal and is unable to go back home due to his fugitive status. The story starts when Cobb has been hired by Cobalt Industries to extract confidential data from their business rival Saito (Ken Watanabe). When Cobb and his team fail to get the proper information from Saito, they are forced to flee for their safety from Cobalt. Saito catches up with them before they can leave and gives Cobb an offer he cannot resist. Saito demands that Cobb do an inception to Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy) and in exchange he will be able to go back home to his family in the United States. Cobb agrees and he forms a stronger team to do the seemingly impossible job of controlling indirectly the thoughts of a different person without him even noticing.

To be frank, “Inception” delivered on its promise and more – a whole lot more. The execution of the complicated plot and concept was just flawless. “Inception” will make you think and it will demand your attention a hundred percent of the time. You might miss key elements or dialogue even if you drift off for a few seconds. But take note, even if this is the case, the whole movie never felt dragging. In fact, the opposite happened. It will make you watch intensely as you want to know, see and feel more. We also liked how the film was presented - it was fast-paced, scenes will drift on endlessly, and yet it never felt rushed and was able to explain things well. This is crucial since the film will delve on complicated matters (and it will make your head hurt literally). This is probably the smartest movie this year hands down. To give you a better idea on how this film will feel like, the best comparison is “The Matrix" but “Inception” is better overall. Finally, we have to give props to Christopher Nolan for doing a perfect job on “Inception”. Given the complexities of the plot and subject matter, he was able to miraculously compress it in around 150 minutes and still present it in a believable manner with little or no loopholes. “Inception” is definitely the best action thriller film this year and is a sure bet on any Top 10, even Top 3 lists.

Rating: 5 reels

Why you should watch it:
- action, thriller, sci-fi and philosophical all perfectly mixed together
- the best Christopher Nolan film so far and that is saying a lot right there

Why you shouldn’t watch it:
- this will definitely demand complete attention from the audience’s part so skip this one if you don't want to think
- the film’s complexity might put some people off

  2. INCEPTION MOVIE HERALDS 528 CODE FOR MUSICAL TRANSCENDENCE

Wake up or die in the nightmares of corporate espionage, greed, corruption, and armed anger. INCEPTION writer and director, Christopher Nolan, heralds "528" as the "code" through which social transformation, involving music, is achieved.

The new Hollywood blockbuster has moviegoers nationwide curious about the source of a mysterious code used in the plot involving music played in "Room 528," and linked to a forgotten "528" memory.

INCEPTION, another word for creation, stars Leonardo DiCaprio, shown in promotions entering Room 528 to defend against corporate thugs.

Recalling the "key" to Room 528 is crucial to the movie's plot, wherein Cobb (DiCaprio), an expert in the art of mind manipulation, extracts secrets from people's subconscious to serve the "treacherous new world of corporate espionage."

The movie repeats the number "528," a mathematical frequency, in a key phone number, on a napkin, two vault combinations, and the room wherein much of the action occurs during the film's climax. Here, special music must be played at a precise time to "extract" the operatives from their anguish and nightmarish pseudo-realities.

Cobb's psychological operation in Room 528 reconnects the heir to the world's most powerful energy cartel, Robert Fisher (played by Cillian Murphy), to his father's memory. Fisher senior, atheistically representing the corporate alternative to God, is locked in a vault requiring the 528 code to open. Another "528-491" combination unlocks the final safe containing the greatest secret, treasure, motivation, and catharsis for the main characters that have all been struggling with the loss of LOVE.

The idea of linking music for social transcendence with "528" and LOVE in INCEPTION appears to have come from Dr. Leonard G. Horowitz, the discoverer of the "Perfect Circle of Sound," and a frequent contributor to Hollywood's screenwriters. The author of 16 books has written extensively on the subject of 528 as it relates to universal construction, healing, Spiritual Renaissance, creationism, and what Nolan terms "inception."

    . . . .

Many people do not understand Nolan's film for its deeper social and metaphysical meanings. Dr. Horowitz attributes a lot of this confusion to the lost memory of 528Hz frequency, believed to be central to spiritual identity and human creativity.

Nolan's film plays on these themes, juxtaposing violence and cataclysm with the dream of "extracting" ourselves from the corporate controlled world of mind control and general madness. The objective is to "get back home."

  3. Definitely a very great movie. It really does make your mind running for the whole length of the movie because you will surely regret missing even a short part of the film. Every aspect of the movie is so important for you to understand the idea behind the scenes.

This movie is definitely a masterpiece. the best movie so that I've watched so far for this year.

One thing made me really impressed is the ending of the movie, it really does allow the viewer to use his mind and think of many possibilities on how did it really ended? Did he die? Was he really able to reunite with his children? I really do want to think that Cobb was able to reunite with his family; however, based from other movies where Leonardo acted as the main character, we know that he died at the very end of those movies, which gives us the idea that he really does ended up in Limbo in this movie.

Anyway, thanks for the review which made us decide to watch this great movie. :D

  7. So basically what this guy said at the end of whether you should watch it or not is if you are smart, watch it, if you are stupid, don't watch it.

  8. Hi there anonymous!

Funny because that is your interpretation of what we said.

What we meant is if you are the type who just likes to relax and not think much about the story and what's happening on screen, then this movie is not for you. We are not implying that you skip this one if you are not smart.

    Thanks for the comment!

  15. I recently got the opportunity to watch Inception and with all honesty, it brought an unprecedented headache on my part. It's not a shallow movie created to satisfy a dumb action-flick lover's appetite but a masterpiece full of complicated twists and stories. The ambiguous ending is the best part it could offer because it will leave any audience a lasting impact, albeit confusing and mind-twisting in its purest form. It deserves full attention and a second look because its cryptic nature might inspire aversion from other movie-goers. Nonetheless, I still consider this movie as one of the best, if not the best, of Christopher Nolan's and probably the best under the sci-fi/action/philosophical genre. It is a movie to die for and worth watching. Above all, even though it's solely based from a fictional story, its the type of movie that will change your idea about the complexities of dream and of sleep itself forever.
