One of the galaxy’s most iconic villains is stepping back into the spotlight. Lucasfilm Animation has officially announced “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord,” an all-new animated series set to premiere on Disney+ on April 6, 2026. The series will roll out with two episodes per week, culminating in a special finale event on May the 4th, the ultimate Star Wars holiday. Catch the teaser trailer below:
Set after the events of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” Maul – Shadow Lord explores the next chapter in Darth Maul’s relentless journey. With the galaxy reshaped by the rise of the Empire, Maul plots to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a remote planet untouched by Imperial control. Along the way, he encounters a disillusioned young Jedi Padawan, a potential apprentice who could become a crucial piece in his long game against his enemies.
The series is created by Dave Filoni and is based on Star Wars and characters created by George Lucas. Development duties are shared by Filoni and Matt Michnovetz, with Brad Rau serving as supervising director. Executive producers include Dave Filoni, Athena Yvette Portillo, Matt Michnovetz, Brad Rau, Carrie Beck, and Josh Rimes, with Alex Spotswood on board as co-executive producer.
Fan-favorite Sam Witwer reprises his role as Maul, continuing the performance that has defined the character across animation and gaming. The series also features an impressive voice cast, including:
