Death of the Pastor's Wife (2026) Series Review: A Tale Without Winners

There are some tales that are just harrowing and sad without any real redemption stories. Death of the Pastor's Wife is one such tale that's as gripping as it is difficult to watch. The story of Mica Miller and the circumstances surrounding her death are laid out in plain sight. It's not so much a mystery as it is a story of frustration, as we already know the cause of death and are left to understand the circumstances that led to it.

Mica Miller, the wife of John Paul "JP" Miller, founder of Solid Rock Church, makes a 911 call from a secluded forest park. She says that she plans to take her own life and calls the authorities to let them know where her body can be found. Soon, that threat becomes a reality and Mica is dead. Did she die by suicide, or was she murdered? More importantly, what were the circumstances that led her down this dark path, far removed from the Christian life she had lived for so long?

There are a lot of documentaries that can feel fabricated, spinning more drama than what actually happened. What makes Death of the Pastor's Wife work is that it feels straightforward and real. And that's actually more disturbing because you know that what's being presented is reality making the circumstances surrounding Mica's death even more heartbreaking. The three-episode run for this true-crime series feels well-paced. The first episode sets up the backstory of how Mica and JP met and eventually ended up together. The second focuses on their tumultuous marriage, while the final episode follows Mica as she tries to become fully independent from her husband. It's simple, it's clear, and despite all the depressing material, we still found ourselves engrossed and engaged.

Since this is a recent case, the story isn't complete, so some viewers may find the lack of a definitive conclusion even more frustrating. The reality is that while the series may leave us with a strong impression of what happened, there is still no clear resolution - only a victim and family and friends (and viewers) left searching for more concrete answers. Hopefully, with this documentary bringing renewed attention to Mica's story, justice can eventually be served. More than anything, Death of the Pastor's Wife is a sobering reminder of how difficult it can be to see what happens behind closed doors and how important it is to question those we place our trust in.
