The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3: Movie Review

"The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" stars two of Hollywood's greats and soon to be hall-of-famers, Denzel Washington and John Travolta. Nothing makes us more giddy at the moment than to see John Travolta back in an action film and Denzel Washington return from nearly a two year hiatus from films. The basic plot seems to be excellent too. Can "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" take us for a thrill ride? Read on to find out the verdict.

"The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" centers around Walter Garber (Denzel Washington) who is currently working as a subway dispatcher. Unfortunately for him, his unremarkable day will turn a hundred and eighty degrees when Train 123 is suddenly hijacked by a man who calls himself Ryder (John Travolta). He has asked Garber to give him $10 million in an hour or else he will kill one hostage per minute beyond that time. Garber and the authorities must find a way to stop the mysterious madman and find out who ryder really is.

Now for the verdict, we say "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" was a thrill ride. It did not bog down to a bore show. It just delivered the goods in an efficient manner. The basic plot was not heavy at all and it was easy to catch on by the end of the film. This makes the movie open to almost anyone out there. Unfortunately, there are some kinks to the film. One of these is the typical acting of Denzel Washington and John Travolta - once you have seen them in an action flick before, do not expect to see something even vaguely new on their end. Another caveat is the very simplistic ending that totally bummed us out. It just ended too abruptly and we felt that it was out of place with the structure of the whole film.

Rating: 4 reels

Why you should watch it:
- the movie did not feel heavy or boring at any point in time
- the basic plot seems to tie up pretty well by the end of the film

Why you shouldn't watch it:
- the ending seems to be too simple and ended abruptly
- the acting is very typical for Denzel Washington and John Travolta

  2. hi cochan!

maybe not grease but more like swordfish! whatever films that he starred as a villain would be a good bet!

yeah, have to agree that they lack depth but hey, they have found success with their same-same acting. Just like Adam Sandler or Seth Rogen! :P
