The Hangover: Movie Review

Almost a year ago, we reviewed a movie that was so out-of-this-world which made us laugh our pants off from start to finish - that movie was "Pineapple Express". So why are we mentioning this year old film? Well, there are a lot of similarities. Foremost would be in the cult status that both had Stateside. No doubt, "Pineapple Express" was a surprise hit. In fact, it was such a surprise that only one cinema even bothered to show it here in our country. "The Hangover" was a surprise hit in the U.S. beating big guns like "The Land of the Lost" and only second to "Up". Lessons have been learned a year after and thanks to Warner Brothers Philippines, more cinemas will show "The Hangover". But even so, would "The Hangover" tickle the Pinoy's funny bone? Read on to find out our final verdict.

Two days before Doug's (Justin Bartha) wedding, he and his best buddies Phil (Bradley Cooper) and Stu (Ed Helms) embark on a voyage to Las Vegas to celebrate his final few days of being single. With them is Phil's soon to be brother-in-law Alan (Zach Galifianakis). All hell break's lose when the next day, Doug is missing while Phil, Stu and Zach cannot remember a single thing about the night before. Now, they must retrace their steps one-by-one to figure out where the groom is and hopefully return him to L.A. on time and most importantly in one piece.

"The Hangover" gave us a hangover - that is from laughing non stop. We thought nothing can beat Pineapple Express's charm, well this year's new model just proved to be better in every aspect. First, the main plot. Let us be quite frank here, films like this most of the time do not contain any substance. "The Hangover" is very different. The whole film feels light and yet the story never gets too wacky and too weird and it actually makes you think this can happen in real life. Maybe it is the "Anything can happen in Vegas" moniker but who cares? Second, the interplay between the actors were really good. If you can remember "Wild Hogs" from two years back, the cast here is its badass brother and Wild Hog's foursome are the black sheep - they did a superb job, to think that most of the actors in this set are not A-list names. We just cannot describe the feeling we got from "The Hangover" but for sure, it made our day and we are sure once you watch this, it will make yours too. "The Hangover" is a cannot-miss film hands down!
