Reel Advice's Top Ten Movies of 2009

It’s almost the end of the year and we want to thank everyone for the continues support and the constant visits. 2009 was a big year for us, it was not only our first full year of movie reviewing but there were a lot of milestones achieved. Our foot traffic has improved immensely over the past year and for the second year in a row, we were one of the nominees for the Philippine Blog Awards (Best Entertainment Blog category).

2009 is a great year for movies and we had a really difficult time deciding which ones top our list. After much discussion, we finally have our top 10 for 2009.

1. Avatar
Who would have thought the best film for 2009 would come towards the end of the year. Avatar was just fantastic in every sense of the word. The effects and graphics were breathtaking and the story was good. This is one movie that we are begging you to see!

2. Up
Up may not only be the best animation this year but it may also be on top of our list of best animated films ever made. This brought tears to the eyes of many and warmth in the hearts of millions. The first ten minutes was just priceless.

We didn't quite expect this movie to be so good. More than anything, we were relieved that the movie did justice to one of the most beloved franchises in the world. Everything about it, from the effects to the storyline was just brilliant.

4. The Hangover
One of the best, well-written comedy films we've seen in years. We were laughing non-stop from start to finish. Truly an enjoyable experience that we won't soon forget

5. (500) Days of Summer
An extraordinary film that mirrors what most of us experience about love and life. The movie's unique, philosophical nature makes it one of our favorites this year.

If you haven’t seen any of these films, make sure that you catch them once it’s released on DVD. Finally, we hope for another big year in 2010. Maybe we can finally see local movies topping off the list come next year but till then, we are just hoping for another year of great movie-watching for everyone! Again, thanks for all the support! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

  4. I would agree that "Avatar" was the greatest view of the year, but there were better movies: "Inglourious basterds" or "Antichrist", for example.
