K-pop and K-drama. These two things have ruled the airwaves in recent years. iQiyi's upcoming K-series original "IDOL: The Coup" combines these two things to as the series features the fictitious girl group Cotton Candy as they try to find success as the risk of being disbanded looms.
Even though the series is fictitious, the actors that will portray Cotton Candy's members are real members of Korean girl groups. Directed by Noh Jong-chan, the series stars “Hani” Ahn Hee-yeon (EXID), Kwak Si-yang, Kim Min-kyu (Produce X 101), Solbin (LABOUM), EXY (WJSN), Green (REDSQUARE) and actress Han So-eun.
During the show's press conference held last November 8, “Hani” Ahn Hee-yeon confessed that the show’s plot had an uncanny resemblance to her life story. “I teared up every time I read the script. But I took comfort in the knowledge that if not for my struggles, and for EXID, I probably wouldn’t be able to portray this role well.”
iQiyi K-original "IDOL: The Coup" started streaming November 8 while new episodes of the series will be available at 10pm every Monday and Tuesday, exclusively on the iQiyi International app or iQ.com.
