Horror movies often rely on haunted houses, restless spirits, or eerie atmospheres to unsettle audiences. But the film Good Boy takes that familiar formula and twists it into something refreshingly original by placing a dog at the very center of the terror.
Indy and his best friend Todd leave the city behind, moving into a long-abandoned family home in the countryside. But while the move promises a fresh start, the house has a sinister presence lurking in its shadows. Indy quickly senses something wrong in their midst - as invisible figures slipping through hallways, ghostly visions of another dog, and unsettling reminders of the house’s grim history. As Todd slowly succumbs to the darkness surrounding their new home, Indy realizes it’s up to him to fight back. Against a malevolence determined to drag Todd into the afterlife, Indy’s unwavering devotion to his owner becomes the strongest weapon of all.
At the heart of Good Boy is its four-legged star, Indy. A 35-pound retriever with a penchant for fetch, food, and his humans, Indy has no idea he’s stealing the spotlight in a feature film. His soulful presence brings both warmth and emotional weight to the horror unfolding on screen. While Good Boy is his feature debut, Indy previously appeared in the short film of the same name.
Good Boy also marks the feature debut of director Ben Leonberg, a filmmaker known for infusing genre cinema with craft, heart, and ingenuity. A Columbia University MFA graduate and current professor of filmmaking at Montana State University, Leonberg brings a mix of hands-on practicality and imaginative flair to his work.
