Big news for movie fans: SM Cinema is teaming up with CJ 4DPLEX to bring the Philippines’ first-ever SCREENX theater soon at the SM Mall of Asia.
So what exactly is SCREENX? Imagine watching a movie where the action doesn’t just stay on the front screen and it actually spills over to the left and right walls of the theater, giving you a wider 270-degree panoramic view. This immersive format has wowed audiences in 40 countries with more than 435 SCREENX auditoriums worldwide, and now Filipino moviegoers are finally getting the chance to experience it firsthand.
SM Mall of Asia is the perfect spot for the debut as it is the country's biggest and most iconic malls, and now it’s about to house one of the most innovative cinema technologies.
“Launching SCREENX in the Philippines with SM Cinema—the country’s No. 1 exhibitor—is a major milestone in our mission to innovate cinematic storytelling,” said Jun Bang, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX.
“Bringing our immersive 270-degree format to the Mall of Asia, one of Southeast Asia’s most iconic destinations, allows us to offer Filipino audiences a bold new way to experience film,” added Don Savant, Chief Business Officer, CJ 4DPLEX.
“We are proud to bring SCREENX to the Philippines through our partnership with CJ 4DPLEX,” said Steven T. Tan, President of SM Supermalls. “At SM Cinema, we continue to push the boundaries of entertainment by introducing world-class innovations that elevate the moviegoing experience for our customers.”
The partnership is a major win for local cinephiles who are always looking for the next big way to level up their moviegoing experience. SM Cinema already offers premium formats like IMAX, IMAX with Laser, and Director’s Club, and SCREENX is set to be another game-changer. And one thing’s for sure, cinema in the Philippines is about to get a massive upgrade.
