The Best Gambling Movies of the Last Decade

We all like a nice relaxing night in front of the TV from time to time, and you simply can’t beat a good movie night. Whether you’re in bed streaming online, or gathered in the living room with your nearest and dearest, if you find the right movie, your evening will be an incredibly enjoyable one.

Whereas we all have our own personal preferences in terms of movie genres, gambling movies have withstood the test of time and continue to impress immensely. If you’re a fan of gambling, and like to spend your free time making use of the many online casinos currently in existence, chances are you’ll be a fan of gambling movies as well.

Whether you’re looking for inspiration to hit the online casinos like, or simply want to enjoy a bit of casino-themed escapism, gambling movies are the perfect choice.

Here’s a look at some of the biggest gambling movies of the last decade.

The Gambler
The first gambling movie on our list today is The Gambler. The movie stars Mark Wahlberg as a failed novelist named Jim Bennet. Bennet works at an LA university teaching English literature. He is a privileged man from a rich family, with an exceptional mind.

Despite this, Jim has his demons, most noticeably in the form of a serious gambling addiction. In debt to some serious loan sharks, he continues to borrow more money in the hopes of turning his luck around.

The movie features plenty of exciting gambling action with all of your favourite casino games, including poker and blackjack.

Featuring John Goodman in a show-stealing supporting role, and many other talented actors, The Gambler is the perfect movie for those that enjoy a gambling movie.

Win It All
Next up we have Win It All. This movie features Jake Johnson as Eddie Garrett. Eddie is a gambling addict on an incredibly bad losing patch.

Desperate, Eddie encounters a loan shark who offers him $10,000 in cash, if he looks after a duffel bag for him whilst he is in prison. Unable not to look what’s inside, Eddie finds it full of money and proceeds to “borrow” some in the hopes of paying off his debts and earning more.

The movie tells the tale of Eddie trying to balance a personal life, a new love life, battle his demons, and resist the lure and the temptation of what’s inside the bag. It is the perfect gambling movie as it tells the highs and the lows of gambling and it is incredibly entertaining in the process.

Mississippi Grind
Our third offering for you today is Mississippi Grind. This movie tells the tale of two gamblers embarking on a road trip to the Deep South of New Orleans, on their way to a high stakes gambling competition. Needless to say, they’re convinced that they’re going to win big.

Starring Ryan Reynolds in one of his best performances to date, Mississippi Grind is gritty, it’s heart-warming, it’s touching, and it is incredibly entertaining. Basically, it tells the story of gambling, consistently, and relentlessly, as one continual grind. And as they say, ‘the grind don’t stop’.

Uncut Gems
Uncut Gems was only released in 2019, yet many are already referring to it as a classic. Uncut Gems sees Adam Sandler in a dramatic role as opposed to a comedic one, and in truth, he knocks it out of the park.

Sandler plays a man named Howard, who happens to be plagued with a very serious gambling addiction. He is a man hellbent on travelling down a path of self destruction. Howard just will not stop gambling until he has lost everything.

What we, and critics for that matter, really liked about this movie was how it made us emphasize with poor Howard. Some would argue that he is the man responsible for his own undoing, but you can’t help but emphasize with him and hope that his crazy plan for redemption actually goes ahead.

Needless to say, this is not one for those of you looking for a light-hearted gambling movie, but it is gritty, realistic, and emotionally engaging and will have you captivated from start to finish.

Molly’s Game
Molly’s Game is a movie which is based upon the memoir of Molly Bloom, who was a former world champion skier who was forced to embark upon an alternative career path after an awful accident.

Molly swaps the ski slopes for the casinos as she embarks upon a new career venture into the world of underground poker.

Starring Jessica Chastain as Molly, this movie gives us a real insight into the illegal world of underground poker and highlights the highs, as well as the many, many lows.

Another very dramatic and realistic movie, Molly’s Game is a great movie for those of you who want a gambling movie that is the exact polar opposite of what you’d expect to find in the bright lights and neon signs of Vegas.

All In: The Poker Movie
Finally, the last movie we’re going to be looking at with you today is All In: The Poker Movie. This is a fantastic movie that offers an insight into the world of poker.

It provides a detailed history of poker and looks at how politics, world economics, gambling authorities, and many other factors, have contributed into making it one of the most popular games in the entire world.

Most interestingly of all is how it shows how a group of professional poker players established themselves as a community and would go on to help make professional poker one of the most-watched televised sports on the planet.
