Here's the Full Scoop on the Korean Shows and Movies Coming to VIU this August 2021

Korean Movies:

"Parasite" became the first non-English film to win the Best Motion Picture award at the 2020 Oscars. It likewise earned the Best International Feature Film, Best Original Screenplay and Bong Joon Ho’s first Academy as Best Director. If you haven't seen this powerful movie that depicts social inequalities  then this is your chance.

Unforgettable 
When a letter and cassette tape from 23 years ago show up at a radio station, the radio DJ and his old friends reminisce on the bittersweet summer they l ast spent together as kids. Every summer, Soo Ok (Kim So Hyun) patiently waits for her friends Beom Sil (Do Kyung Soo a.k.a D.O from EXO), San Dol (Yeon Jun Suk), Gae Deok (Lee David), and Gil Ja (Joo Ah Reum) to arrive back to their hometown
island. 

My Wife Got Married 
It all started with football. Deok-hoon (Kim Joo Hyuk) falls in love with In Ah (Son Ye Jin) who shares his love and passion for the sport. They quickly become lovers and he proposes. She refuses at first but they eventually get happily married. Until one day, In-ah declares her wish to marry another man. She doesn't want to divorce as she loves Deok-hoon all the same, the only thing is that she loves the new man as much. 

Bank Attack 
Desperate for money to save his sick daughter's life, Bae Gi Ro (Lee Moon Shik) decides to rob a bank. Things become much more complicated, when real bank robbers enter the bank.

Shadows in the Palace 
During the Chosun period, a court lady is found dead and ruled as a suicide. But while performing an autopsy, palace medic Chun Ryung (Park Jin Hee) suspects murder and starts to investigate the case. Chun Ryung bravely unmasks the deceptions kept hidden by those that had far more power than she had expected.

The Road: Tragedy of One

Adapted from the novel "One Tragedy" by Norizuki Rintaro, this show is a gripping story of the secrets, desires, guilts, and salvation of affluent residents who live at "Royal the Hill". Baek Soo Hyun (Ji Jin Hee) is a popular and respected anchorman whose statements are always taken as truth. But when away from the public eye, Soo Hyun is cold-hearted and stops at nothing to get what he wants. On a torrential rainy night a tragic incident takes place and the secrets connected with it result in silence, avoidance, and confusion, which eventually leads to more tragedies.

Police University 
The 16-episode series that revolves around a police university professor, Yoo Dong Man (Cha Tae Hyun) with 20 years' experience in crime detection, a talented computer hacker, Kang Seon Ho (Jung Jin Young) who joins the university as a freshman in hopes to change his ways and Oh Kang Hee (Krystal Jung), a new recruit who works tirelessly to achieve her dream of becoming a police officer. 

The Devil Judge 
Hailed as the most buzzworthy drama in  Korea today, the show is set in a dystopian and chaotic Korea bereft of law and order, Head Trial Judge Kang Yo Han (Ji Sung) is signaling the need for change. His courtroom is the subject of a reality show where he mercilessly punishes the guilty, earning him the nickname of "Devil Judge". 

Team Bulldog: Off-Duty Investigation 

It i sn’t uncommon to see crimes get brushed aside without a proper investigation. Known as an enthusiastic and impressively effective detective, Jin Kang Ho (Cha Tae Hyun) will stop at nothing to catch the criminals he’s assigned to pursue. With a passion for solving the unsolvable cases, Kang Ho finds it’s better to work alone. Or so it was, until the day he met Kang Moo Young (Lee Sun Bin) - the overly zealous producer of a l ow-rated investigative program. Moo Young is as enthusiastic
about solving cases and catching criminals as Kang Ho. Sharing an intense passion for their
work, the two agree to team up, working together to make the world a better place. 

A Korean Odyssey 

A journey of two destined souls begins as they try to find the light i n a dark world full of evil spirits. Son Oh Gong (Lee Seung Gi) is a wicked monkey who hatched out from a rock and became a fairy in the heavenly realm for his outstanding magical power and martial arts skills. However, after committing a deadly sin due to his arrogance, he is imprisoned under a mountain for hundreds of years. With the help of an ordinary girl, Seon Mi (Oh Yeon Seo ),  he manages to escape from the mountain, but he deceives her and runs away. As they are fated to, they meet again after 25 years, and he becomes her guardian when she handcuffs him with Geumganggo.
