Pornstar 2: Pangalawang Putok: Movie Review

Impressively, "Pornstar 2: Pangalawang Putok" does the rare feat of being better than its predecessor. This, in our opinion, should have been the first film on Darryl Yap's introspective on the local porn industry. But at the end of the day, "Pornstar 2: Pangalawang Putok" isn't really a good film. If you're in for some basic and crude sexy scenes then this film should entice you. But for those who want more, you'll really have a hard time justifying wasting your precious time and money on it in the first place.
Sadly, the first attempt of local porn legends Ara Mina, Rosanna Roces, Alma Moreno, and Maui Taylor didn't pan out the first time around as the winner of their next Philippine Pornstar became pregnant. But the girls are at it again, now looking for the next "Ang Pambansang Pantasya".
The budget, the production, the writing and even the sexy scenes are bigger and better in "Pornstar 2: Pangalawang Putok". This was a more refined product overall. The jokes aren't as loud and annoying and the introspectives had a lot more focus and critically, integrated to the story. But there's no denying that this was almost a carbon copy of the first film. It had the same basic beats and if you've seen the first film, then you know how this second outing will turn out. For us, even with the improvements, this is still a ridiculous film experience. In fact, half of the scenes felt disjointed and cobbled together just for the sake of it. The last few scenes were forced fed and came out of nowhere just to make this film a little bit more dramatic. And what's with the annoying use of title cards to transition from scene to scene? To keep it simple, if you're trying to improve shit, it's still shit at the end of the day. Sadly, "Pornstar 2: Pangalawang Putok" heavily relies on the first film's format than improve on it in a real and substantial manner.
Rating: 2 reels

Why you should watch it:
- everything is bigger and better this time around
- a more refined experience overall

Why you shouldn't watch it:
- as it heavily relies on the first film, it still doesn't justify its existence
