Morbius: Movie Review

Morbius Movie Review: Unoriginal, Lifeless, and a Blood-Sucking Experience

Watch this movie right now:

"Morbius" felt like it was a bad superhero film made in the early noughties. There's really nothing inspiring and new in this dark and CGI-filled experience. And if the goal was to expand Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU) further into new heights then "Morbius" fails spectacularly.

Ever since he was young, Michael Morbius (Jared Leto) has suffered with a rare blood disorder. But Morbius, even with his sickness, has a brilliant mind and his determination to find a cure leads him combine human and vampire bat DNA. Morbius' desperate gamble seems to be huge success but soon there's a darkness inside him that is unleashed. To maintain his health, he must sustain it by drinking human blood. Will good override evil or will Morbius succumb to his primal urges?

We liked Jared Leto as Morbius. He just fits the character well. Unfortunately, the rest of the film was just dull, dark, and uninspired. This seriously felt dated with its barebones story and characterization. There are a lot of scenes in this film that just doesn't tie up well or make sense at all. For example, Morbius never admits that he killed people when in fact the very first time he injects himself and becomes the living vampire, he massacres a ship full of thugs. These were bad guys probably but murder is murder right? On top of that, there's this fleeting and floating vibe to this film. We never really felt like we got to know the characters featured in its narrative. From Morbius, to his love interest, and to the villain, things happen just for the sake of happening without much development, rhyme or reason most of the time. Visually, we were never fans of dark films and "Morbius" easily fits into the DCEU's darkest of dark films so we're not really into it while the fights was just okay. If you're into CGI-filled bombast then you'll find something to like here but for us, it's just the regular output we expect from superhero films. Overall, there's little to love in "Morbius" and this was just a disappointing barebones release.
