Bullet Train: Movie Review

Bullet Train Movie Review: Cameos on a Train

Watch this movie right now:

Coming from David Leitch, it was no surprise that "Bullet Train" was one heck of a crazy action experience. If we could best describe it, it is to expect the unexpected. It's a very distinct style that's a double-edged sword if you ask us. If you like your action balls-to-the-walls intense from first minute to last then you'll rave endlessly about "Bullet Train". But for us, it did overstay its welcome a little bit and its extreme over-the-top nature just won't be for everyone's liking if we're being honest.
Ladybug (Brad Pitt) is literally an unlucky assassin determined to do his job peacefully after one too many gigs had gone off the rails. His latest mission seems simple - steal a briefcase inside a speeding bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto. But as fate would have it and Ladybug's unlucky nature, he finds himself in the middle of a conflict involving the assassins of all sorts and the largest criminal organization in Japan.
"Bullet Train" is the kind of experience that's as quickly fleeting as its namesake. It's vibrant and intensely entertaining while its playing but there's this certain shallowness that we just couldn't shake off. It's not that the story wasn't fresh or didn't have its slate of surprises (because it definitely did and a whole lot at that) but we just couldn't see the point of it all except for shocking the audience with its sheer bombast and crazy ideas at certain points in the film. To point out one observation, there will be a lot of cameos in this film but half of these cameos came off as more of a distraction rather than being essential to the film's story. What the film was able to achieve though was raw entertainment. This is the kind of action film that you just accept for what it is and you'll probably end up liking it. Nothing more, nothing less. And oh, Aaron Taylor-Johnson also steals the show as the British assassin Tangerine with Brian Tyree Johnson as his brother Lemon. So watch out for their performances as the very key highlight for "Bullet Train".
Rating: 3 and a half reels
